For my final year project I have undertaken the task of developing a protective suit for a Humanoid Disaster Relief Robot designed by NEDO-JSK. Their robot is JAXON, designed to be a sort of 'rescue' robot that could be used by various groups in disaster relief efforts. The problem I have decided to tackle is the robots lack of protection from the elements, as the image you see below is its latest form.
To protect it, a combination of increased chassis strength and protective suit will be developed to provide fire-proofing, water-proofing and impact protection. It will not be unlike a fire-fighters 'turnout' gear, and would serve best to have a slightly human appearance in order to not be off-putting to the general public.
